Soft where beds are usually hard.

The covers come off.

VELAR's removable, machine-washable covers make a light upholstered bed far less precious to actually live with.

A wide sculptural frame that reads as one piece rather than a headboard, rails and base fighting for attention.

The mattress is already handled.

Add the matching NOCTE with VELAR and its usual $899 Queen or $1,299 King price is removed in cart.

Product details

The mattress made to disappear into the offer.

NOCTE is DORSA’s medium-firm performance mattress, built to pair with VELAR and selected DORSA bed frames. It combines a plush upper comfort layer with responsive polyurethane foam and three targeted support zones to keep the body supported without the dead, over-firm feel of a traditional mattress.

The sleep surface uses soft polyester and TENCEL™ Lyocell fibres, with a breathable upholstered finish and an anti-slip base fabric made from polyester with PVC dotting to help keep the mattress planted on the frame.

Bundle-only product. NOCTE is not intended to be purchased on its own. It is reserved for VELAR and selected DORSA bed-frame packages.

THE QUESTIONS THAT MATTER

VELAR, without the fine-print maze.

Size, mattress, cleaning, delivery and setup. The stuff people usually have to hunt for is here.
How much room does VELAR actually need around it so the bedroom still feels expensive, not cramped?

VELAR is deliberately oversized. That is part of what gives it the architectural, low-slung look, but it means you should think about the full outer frame rather than just the mattress size.

The Queen frame measures 215 cm wide × 265 cm deep, while the King measures 245 cm wide × 265 cm deep.

As a practical planning rule, we recommend trying to retain roughly 600 to 750 mm of clear walking space around the sides you regularly use. If one side is your main circulation path, closer to 800 to 900 mm will feel much more comfortable.

That means a room can technically fit VELAR and still not be the right room for it. If the frame leaves only a narrow strip between the upholstered edge and wardrobes, walls or bedside furniture, the room can start to feel visually overloaded.

If you are unsure, send DORSA a photo of the room through the complimentary room-preview tool. It is much easier to judge VELAR's visual mass in the actual space than from measurements alone.

What does the 19.5 cm mattress insert depth actually change visually?

Quite a lot.

VELAR has a 19.5 cm mattress insert depth, meaning a portion of the mattress sits down inside the upholstered frame rather than floating completely above it.

This is one of the reasons VELAR looks lower, softer and more integrated than a conventional bed frame. Instead of seeing the entire mattress sidewall, more of the mattress disappears into the frame and the upholstered perimeter becomes the dominant visual element.

Mattress thickness therefore matters aesthetically. A very thick mattress will naturally sit higher above the frame, while a slimmer mattress will create a more recessed, low-profile look.

If you plan to use your own mattress rather than NOCTE, we recommend considering not only whether it physically fits, but also how much of the mattress you want visible above the upholstered edge.

Can I use my existing mattress instead of the complimentary NOCTE Performance Matteress?

Yes. You are not locked into using NOCTE simply because it is included with the VELAR offer. You can remove it from your cart.

If you already own a mattress you like, VELAR can still be purchased as the bed frame you actually want, with NOCTE treated as the complimentary inclusion rather than the reason you bought the bed.

The important part is confirming that your existing mattress is appropriate for the selected Queen or King configuration and that you are comfortable with how its thickness interacts with VELAR's recessed mattress position.

Mattresses vary significantly in height, edge construction and sidewall shape. Two mattresses with the same nominal Queen dimensions can look surprisingly different once placed inside a deeply upholstered frame.

If you are keeping an existing premium mattress, send DORSA the model or dimensions before ordering and we can help you sanity-check the pairing.

Will fitted sheets be annoying to change because the mattress sits inside the frame?

It is slightly different from changing sheets on a mattress sitting completely exposed on a basic ensemble, but VELAR is not designed to trap the mattress inside an inaccessible cavity.

The mattress sits within the upholstered perimeter, so you will reach slightly further down when hooking a fitted sheet around the corners.

Deep fitted sheets are generally easier to work with because they give you more material to pull beneath the mattress without fighting the upholstered surround.

The bigger consideration is mattress weight. A very heavy mattress will naturally be harder to lift at each corner regardless of the frame underneath it.

If easy sheet changes are a major priority, avoid unnecessarily oversized or excessively heavy mattresses simply for the sake of mattress thickness.

Does the soft upholstered edge actually make a difference when getting in and out of bed?

Yes, particularly because VELAR has such a wide perimeter.

A normal timber or metal frame can create a hard edge exactly where your shin, knee or hip meets the bed. VELAR replaces that exposed hard perimeter with a foam-padded upholstered surround.

That matters more than it sounds because the frame itself becomes usable space. You can sit briefly on the edge while putting on shoes, lean against it, or move around the room without constantly navigating sharp furniture corners.

It is still a structural bed frame underneath, so it should not be treated like a sofa or used as a trampoline, but the points your body actually contacts are substantially softer than a conventional exposed frame.

How realistic is Off White if I wear fake tan, use skincare, have pets or actually live in bed?

Off White is not magically stain-proof. It is simply far more livable than a fixed upholstered bed because VELAR's outer covers are designed to be removable and machine-washable.

The main things to watch are not usually catastrophic spills. They are repeated low-level transfer from fake tan, body oils, hair products, dark denim, makeup, sunscreen and pets.

These tend to build gradually on high-contact areas such as the side rail, headboard edge and corners.

The smartest approach is to treat Off White like good clothing rather than precious museum furniture. Deal with marks early instead of allowing them to accumulate, follow the supplied upholstery care instructions, and wash removable covers when required rather than aggressively scrubbing isolated sections.

If your household is especially hard on light upholstery, Chocolate Brown will obviously hide day-to-day transfer better. Off White gives you the lighter architectural look, while the removable cover system makes that decision far less reckless than it would be on a conventional permanently upholstered frame.

Can the frame be disassembled again if I move house, or is this the kind of bed that becomes a nightmare after installation?

VELAR uses a simplified structural system and timber slat base specifically so it does not need to behave like a permanently built-in piece of furniture.

It can be disassembled for relocation rather than requiring you to move the entire upholstered frame as one enormous object.

That is particularly important because the complete external dimensions are much larger than the mattress itself. Trying to move a 215 cm or 245 cm wide assembled frame through standard residential corridors would obviously be impractical in many homes.

If you are moving, photograph each stage as the bed is dismantled, keep hardware grouped and labelled, and protect upholstered components individually rather than wrapping everything together.

If DORSA White Glove was used for the original installation, the assembly itself is also less mysterious because the bed is designed around a repeatable installation process rather than site-specific construction.

Can a robot vacuum, normal vacuum or mop actually get around VELAR properly?

VELAR is low and visually heavy, so you should not assume a robot vacuum will necessarily travel underneath it the way it would under a high-legged timber bed.

Instead, think of the bed as a low architectural object that you clean around, not necessarily underneath.

The upholstered perimeter can be vacuumed with a soft upholstery attachment to remove dust, hair and surface debris. Floors around the frame can be maintained normally.

When planning placement, avoid pushing the frame unnecessarily hard into corners or leaving tiny unusable gaps beside walls. A deliberate clearance is easier to clean than a 40 mm dust trap that no vacuum head can properly reach.

This is another reason room planning matters before purchase.

Will VELAR block power points, bedside outlets or drawers because the frame is so much wider than the mattress?

It can, if you plan the room around the mattress dimensions instead of the actual VELAR dimensions.

That is one of the most common mistakes with oversized upholstered beds.

The Queen is 215 cm wide and the King is 245 cm wide, so the outer frame extends considerably beyond the mattress footprint. Bedside power points that were conveniently positioned beside a conventional ensemble can end up partially behind the upholstered frame.

The same applies to wardrobe doors, low drawers, bedside tables and wall-mounted switches.

Before ordering, mark the complete frame footprint on the floor with painter's tape rather than marking only the mattress. Then open every nearby door and drawer and check where your bedside furniture actually sits.

If you are building or renovating, place electrical outlets based on the finished bed-frame width, not generic mattress dimensions.

What should I check before ordering if I live in an apartment with lifts, tight hallways or awkward stairs?

Do not only measure the bedroom.

The final installed bed is large, but the relevant delivery question is whether the individual packaged components can make it from the truck to the room.

Apartment buyers should check lift-door width, lift depth, corridor turns, stair landings, apartment entry width and any unusually tight internal corners.

Large upholstered furniture often gets through spaces that appear impossible when assembled because it arrives in separate components. The problem usually occurs where someone has a narrow lift, a 90-degree hallway turn, or a staircase with very limited overhead clearance.

If access looks questionable, photograph the difficult points and send measurements before delivery. It is much better to resolve access before a truck arrives than discover on delivery day that one awkward turn was never considered.

For difficult properties, DORSA White Glove is also the more sensible option because room placement and complete installation are handled rather than leaving you with large packaged components sitting inside the entry.
